Tomorrow I “officially” start 3 weeks of grain free and highly processed food free. I’m doing this for a few reasons. 1) I am really trying to be the healthiest version of myself. 2) I am feeling bloated, broken out, and exhausted most likely from all the crap I have been eating. 3) the processed breads I've grown up eating and learning to love, are so incredibly bad for us and our long term health.
I’m so excited to share this journey with people, so please come back each day to see the new recipes I’m trying and how things are going! Share this with a friend who may be interested in joining me!
I’ve done a lot of research on the “best ways to fuel your body” so you can feel energized, young, and amazing. This is 100% attainable. I have lived the last probably 8 years of my life feeling lethargic, exhausted, bloated, and living with poor digestion thinking that way of life was just “the way things were” for me. I know now that changes in my eating can change everything for me. This past year I’ve been following a relatively “clean diet” and have been much more conscious about what I’m consuming and have seen great changes so far. I’m just ready to take it to the next level.
I was always taught (just like you probably) that it’s all about the calories you take in and the calories you put out. While, yes, that is one level of measurement, it is SO MUCH MORE than that. See, with that model, you could just drink 10 cans of diet coke each day and that won’t negatively affect your weight. This is simply just not true. We all know that sugary pops can lead to diabetes. Or you can just smoke cigarettes all day, and since it is 0 calories, it’s all good! SO, let’s get real.
For me, it is WAY MORE IMPORTANT to be living a healthy life and not being slowed down by health ailments. There are plenty of programs and diets out there that people are talking about. All of which have promising results. I've noticed they are different in some way, yet so similar in others. Whether you are looking to give up meat, only eat fish, or avoid red meat, those are specific things you should look into when figuring out what is best for you and what is most likely going to stick!
Here are the common things I have seen amongst all of my research:
1)Eat food as close to nature as possible.
2) Eat organic green leafy veggies ALL DAY.
3) Eat wild caught fish
4) Make sure your beef is grass fed
5) Avoid processed foods (aka things with ingredients you can’t pronounce)
I encourage you to do your own research as to why these things are important, or start listening to some podcasts of the top natural health professionals. You will see this common theme too.
I grew up on pasta and PB&J. I was the pickiest eater and my parents never made me eat my veggies. Not their fault, I *was* a stubborn little kid J Plus, I literally love bread and all things pasta.
Fast forward to my 20s, sick, tired, blah, and just needing to take control of my life. I’ve done various things in the past few years, but all have lead me to this decision.
- No Grains
- No highly processed foods (aka things with stupid ingredients)
I’m also realistic and know that giving up processed foods will be a challenge, and there will probably be some days with minimal grains, but I really am pushing for 100% for the next 3 weeks. I have my meals all planned and we don’t have any meals out that I know about!
Today: (not perfect since I'M OFFICIALLY starting tomorrow)
Breakfast - Green Smoothie
Lunch - Stuffed Green Pepper (has rice - but since i had this meal planned for last week but made it last night, i'm okay with it)
Snack - Cafe Latte Shakeology
Dinner - Chicken Parmesan
Breakfast – Green Smoothie
Snack – Egg Muffins
Lunch – Chicken Parm with Zucchini Noodles (leftover)
Dinner – Tacos with paleo friendly tortillas
I’ll link the recipes tomorrow!
I look forward to sharing my journey with you :)
