5 Things to consider before doing "what everyone else is doing" with their health

The reason I'm writing this is because there are so many different "programs" or "things" out there to help us be healthier humans. Some truly are better than others and some work for some people and don't for others. It's also so hard to just go to the gym and hope for the best! It was nearly impossible for me to decide what to eat and how much to eat and how often...how do you know it's what you should invest your time and money in??

It's important to know that YOU are the only YOU there is, and these big name diets or programs are not tailored to your individual person. That means, you may have to adapt a plan or just admit that something wont work for you.

Here are things you should consider before jumping on the next bandwagon

1) Does it seem interesting to you?

Just because you know it works doesn't mean you should automatically try it. If you find it interesting, you are more likely to stick to the plan. If you think it sounds horrible, then... Surprise... You probably won't stick too it.

2) When you really stop an think about it, will it be moderately easy for you to implement? and continue it long term?

If you have to do a complete 180 and change everything you do and give up everything you love, then maybe it isn't for you. If there is a way to incorporate your favorite things and maybe make some easy swaps....then maybe it's for you. That's what I do. I have learned how to "healthify" my favorite recipes!

3) Will this program make you HEALTHIER and HAPPIER?

Many programs argue for cutting our complete food groups or drastically cutting calories. Do your research and be SURE that you will be healthier on the other side. You want it to be something you can benefit from LONG TERM.

Don't just trust the people who made up the diet, trust the people who are using it! Read reviews and research people's testimonies. (Just be careful with the crazies & negative nancys -- most people only say something if they have something negative to say)

4) What are the pros and cons of this specific program?

If you are deciding between a few options, make a pro/con list. They work every time. Nothing will be 100% perfect, but nothing in life is. Chose the best for you and adapt things to meet your needs!

5) Can you get your significant other, roommate, parents/whoever you live with on board?

The HARDEST thing to do is try something new or try to eat new foods and no one at home is on board. 1) they make you feel bad. 2) it's silly to cook multiple meals 3) they always seem to bring pizza around when you are trying to avoid it.

I've tried a number of things and found one thing that has been working. It's important not to get discouraged if something doesn't work for you! it's not a reflection on you, it just means you need to look for something else. Also, in my opinion,  you should try something for a few weeks before you decide it's not working. Depending on where you are coming from, any sort of change can be emotionally difficult...  it was very tough for me at the beginning... But surrounding myself with positive and supportive people helped me so much!

Hope this helps!
