5 ways to live a less stressful life

5 ways to live a less stressful life

Stress is a real challenge in my every day life, but I will say that I have been able to control my stress levels much more in recent months. Here are the things/changes I've made to improve my daily life:

1. Do Something you Love Everyday          I'm so fortunate to love my jobs. I am a high school math teacher and an aquatics director at a day camp. I LOVE going to work and helping people. However, these jobs also cause a lot of my stress! What do you love to do? do you love to hike? run? bike? or do you love to go out for coffee? see friends? Figure out what brings you joy and do it every day. Life is too short to be caught up at work and missing out on doing the things that you love.

2. Be Active & Take Care of Yourself

I love watching tv. Like, one time I watched 4 seasons of LOST in ONE WEEK. That's ridiculous! I've seen every Harry Potter movie at least 10 times. Trust me, I love escaping into TV or Movies. However, sitting around also made me unhappy and fat - which stressed me out. It made me feel lonely and useless. So go be active! Get off your bottom and DO SOMETHING! Let go of everything you have at work or with family or friends and go do something that elevates your heart rate. Also, eat healthier. You will feel so much better & have so much more energy to attack those things that stress you out!

3. Be Good Enough

I have lived my life trying to please everyone and do my very best at everything I do! This has gotten me to successful places, but also stressful places. We have to be okay with "good enough". Did you try your best? Did you give it everything you have? Because that is all you can do. Some people are jerks and are going to make your life harder and you can't let that cause more stress than you already have. Also, allow others to be good enough. Even if things aren't exactly the way you wanted, be content with the fact that people are doing the best that they can (hopefully!).

4. Save your Money

What is more stressful than not having enough money? I don't know! Make a list of your needs and your wants. Take care of the needs and save the rest. As you build your savings, you can add in some wants each month. You may have to sacrifice things at first, but in the end it will make a huge difference! You can't live your life having no fun either. You can set aside money each month to do something with your friends, but it is always nice to look for low-cost activities. How about a movie night at home or a hike on a trail?

5. Surround yourself with positive energy

All of the above will help you be more positive. Having a negative attitude is so common these days. Go check out your Newsfeed, I'm sure it's a bunch of complainers and whiners! This negative attitude will bring you and others around you down. You have 24 hours in a day, use them wisely! Stay positive and look for the positive in every situation. This has been a game changer for me. We can all sit around and point out the negatives in our lives, but you will feel so much better if you take every situation and find the positives within. You will notice your whole demeanor, outlook, and way of being will change for the better!
